Most steakhouses in Saigon are located in District 1 or District 2, and there used to be some in District 7 as well. As for District 3, there aren’t many, probably just Topping Beef. I also… don’t have much faith in steakhouses in District 3, probably because there are so few of them =)) But after reading about Tái Tái on Threads, I saw so many positive reviews, and on Google Maps, the ratings were amazing, so I got a bit of FOMO.
The menu at Tái Tái seems pretty similar to Topping Beef, with affordable beef options, lots of choices, and a few Western dishes to mix things up. The decor here seems to cater more to couples on dates, with the restaurant’s layout and seating arrangements perfect for romantic outings.
Although it’s a casual restaurant, Tái Tái still serves free tap water and bread 😀 That’s a nice touch, really satisfying 😀 😀
Mocktail yuzu
When I went, the restaurant was running a promotion: if you leave a review on Google Maps (probably why the restaurant has such a high rating =)) I’ve noticed many places use this trick now), you’ll get a free dessert or mocktail. Since my little one loves lava cake, I chose the mocktail. The mocktail wasn’t great though, the sweet and sour flavors didn’t blend well, and they were pretty overpowering and harsh on the throat, so I ended up not finishing it… Luckily, it was free, but if I had to pay for it, I’d feel a bit disappointed…
Shrimp tempura with bisque sauce 215k
The tempura portion comes with 4 large shrimp, and the batter is thin and crispy, served with a bisque sauce (kind of like shrimp bisque soup). A plus is that the shrimp are fresh, retaining their sweetness. The crispy batter isn’t too greasy, so it’s not overwhelming. I think this dish is really tasty, though the sauce is a bit bland — whether you dip it or not, I don’t feel much of a difference… The dish is paired with apple slices that add a nice tangy kick, which is really delicious!
Scallop w ponzu 275k
I don’t know why, but the scallops look bigger in person, yet they look so small in the photos… There were 3 large scallops, seared to perfection, served with mashed potatoes and ponzu sauce. The mashed potatoes were a bit… odd, they were soft but had a somewhat “artificial” taste, kind of bland and not very enjoyable. The scallops, on the other hand, were good. They were simply seared, but because they were fresh, they still tasted great. Overall, this dish was decent.
Top blade US 295k/250gr
Steak is one of the main reasons I went to Tái Tái. The price for steak in District 3 is only 295k for 250g, which I think is cheaper than Topping Beef. The beef quality is decent, I chose medium, but it came out a little too rare for my liking, though the beef itself was fine. I’d say it’s about the same as Topping Beef, not sure if the beef there is of higher quality though =)) The downside is the sauce, which was really bland, I couldn’t taste much… I ended up dipping the steak in salt and pepper and that tasted much better!
