District 1 Saigon

Truffle & Co, Saigon

After a long stretch of dieting to lose weight, we’re finally back hitting up restaurants in Saigon =)) Since it’s been a while, we decided to play it safe. Truffle & Co has been getting tons of praise, so we thought, why not “put our trust in it” and give it a try. They have a pretty solid lunch set: 299k++ for 2 courses and 329k++ for 3, and drinks are included.

The drink’s a legit fancy bottled water. Service was just okay, not super friendly, but not bad either.

Wagyu carpaccio

I zoomed in for the pic so it looks huge, but in real life, it’s about palm-sized. Just right for one person, not too filling. Thinly sliced beef with balsamic dressing, a bit of cheese, and rocket leaves. Tasted just like any typical Italian restaurant, easy to eat, but didn’t really leave a strong impression.

Mini burrata & prosciutto

This one was definitely better: burrata cheese with prosciutto (just like what you get at Pizza 4P’s), and some grilled peach on the side. Nothing groundbreaking, but very easy to eat. If you like cheese but want something lighter, this appetizer’s a safe bet.

Truffle chicken diane (+99k)

One of the more regretful choices =)) We figured if the chicken is pricier than the beef, it must be something special… but the first bite had us like… It’s just regular soft industrial chicken, with crispy skin. The truffle mushroom sauce was lightly salty and smelled nice. But there were no carbs served with it. Even after splitting the dish, we were already kinda sick of it. Not sure why this dish costs an extra 99k?

Wagyu steak frittes

Now this one was better. The steak was sliced in an interesting way, kinda like lasagna =)) Beef was tender, still juicy even though fully cooked. Fries were super crispy and thin, which was a nice touch. Definitely the best dish of the meal.

Chocolate lava cake (+79k)

We ordered it just to try, but it was too sweet for our taste, so… meh. Overall, nothing really stood out. Prices were okay, not too expensive, but we wouldn’t go back.
